By learning about Pete Buchmann and his dog, one wonders what boundaries unconditional love cannot break! Pete’s life took a turn when he lost all that mattered… the two people he loved most; his mother and sister; his job, his car and finally, his home. Feeling compelled to live in a tent on the backyard of an abandoned house in Delaware, Pete had no one and nothing left for company but his faithful dog, Buster.
After a while, Pete realized that he wasn’t being fair to Buster by keeping him by his side through such an ordeal. However, since Buster was quite old for a dog, he knew that it wasn’t an option to send him to a kill shelter. Pete learned about an animal shelter, called Faithful Friends, where Buster would be safe and well looked after.
Even though he sent Buster to Faithful Friends, Pete couldn’t bear the idea of not seeing his long term companion every day so he walks each day 2.5 miles on both sides just to spend a few hours with Buster. Pete is a hard working man who wants to have a full-time job again and is definitely not the stereotypical homeless man, involved in drugs and drinking.
